What Is A ‘Vibecession’ And Are We In One?

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) has yet to declare a post-pandemic recession, but many say we’re in a “vibecession.”

Coined by Kyla Scanlon, the author of a Substack newsletter on economics, a vibecession refers to a disconnect between the economy of a country and the public’s pessimistic perception of it. Or, as Scanlon put it, “The vibes of a recession, but maybe not the economic reality of one (yet).”
